Notas para el viaje

Natsuko dice que lo bueno y lo malo de Japón es que todo el mundo respeta mucho las reglas, que son muy respetuosos. ‘La gente no cruza por el medio de la calle y tampoco van a poder sacar gajos de plantas como hacen acá’. Le comentamos que queremos que nos ayude a traducir una serie de tarjetitas de presentación para dejarle a la gente, algo como ‘hola, nos gusta su jardín y nos gustaría venir a charlar con usted a ver cómo hace’ o ‘no nos puede dar un pedacito de esa planta?’

Pero no podemos ir sacando cosas, no. Tenemos que ser respetuosos y hacer muchos regalos.

Natsuko says that the really great and really bad thing about Japan is that people are very respectful. ‘There's no way they're gonna jaywalk like you do here’ [she's in Argentina, visiting] ‘Nor will you be able to pick pieces of plants from other people’s garden.’ We asked her to help us translate some phrases that we can afterwards print in cards and give to people when we introduce ourselves. Something like ‘hello, we like your garden and would love to come and chat with you about how you take care of it.’ or ‘could we have a piece of that plant?’

But we cannot go around taking pieces of plants — no. We should be respectful and make lots of gifts.
