La idea era hacer un taller de dos dias, al aire libre. Ibamos a hacer carpas, visitar la huerta de Dardo y por la noche hacer un fogón y mirar una proyección. Pero en los primeros dos intentos el tiempo no ayudó: la tarde del jueves había muchísimo viento, y decidimos hacer una carpa cerca de la Casita, que tenía refugio del viento. ¡Eramos demasiado y fue un poco caótico! Pero la pasamos muy bien igual.
The original plant was to do a two-session workshop, outdoors. We would make tents, visit Dardo's vegetable garden and by night make a fire and watch a short movie. But the weather didn't help: on thursday the wind was blowing too strong. So, we decided to make just one big tent so the kids would knowhow to put it together, taking shelter from the wind closeby to the Casita. There were too many kids and things became a little hectic. It was a lot of fun though!
Al final de día tomamos la merienda y después jugamos a la mancha cadena.
At the end of the day we had milk and alfajores and played "chain-tag".
¡El segundo día, el viernes, el clima fue peor que el primero! Vino una tormenta fuertísima y hasta cayó granizo, que es muy peligroso porque puede arruinar la cosecha de cebolla. Estábamos dibujando muchos dibujos con muchos rayos y nubes, y de golpe…¡se cortó la luz! No se veía más nada y no podíamos dibujar. Decidimos hacer refugios con las mesas y unas telas, y usando las sillas del salón armamos un tunel que comunicaba los diferentes refugios.
The next day, friday, was even worse than the first! We had a very intense storm, the sky turned green and it hailed, which is very bad news for the onion crops that represent work for almost everyone in Buratovich. We took the workshop indoors and made lots of drawings with lightingbolts… but suddenly the lights went out! We couldn't see a thing and everyone started screaming. We decided to make shelters using the tables as structure and fabric. Then the kids started putting together tunnels that communicated each shelter using plastic chairs. They had a blast.
Dejamos pasar el fin de semana y decidimos hacer el último taller el lunes a la mañana, antes de irnos. Por suerte el día estaba ideal, no había viento ni tormenta. Pasamos a buscar a los chicos por la casita y fuimos a visitar la huerta de Dardo, que les explico muchas cosas de cómo funciona una huerta, y que si uno hace las cosas bien y con cuidado el trabajo no es tanto…El armó esta huerta en un poco más de tres meses.
We let the weekend go by and arranged for one final encounter on monday morning. This time the weather was beautiful. At 9 in the morning we picked up the kids at the Casita and headed down to Dardo's garden. He explained how to take care of a vegetable garden and said that it's really not that much work if you plan ahead and do things thoughtfully. He made this garden in about three months.
De ahí nos fuimos al predio del vagón a armar las carpas. Hubo que decidir dónde poner cada una y limpiar palos y cañas para hacer el perímetro en el que cae la tela. El modelo de las carpas está basado en las tipis de los indios norteamericanos, que son fáciles y rápidas de armar.
Afterwards, we went near the vagón to make our camp. The kids had to decide where to place the tents and clean out the sticks that were gathered to make the tents. The model we've been using since our first workshop in Tokyo is based on the native american tipi. They are fast and easy to build.
Después de armarlas, los chicos se fueron a jugar un rato a la plaza y volvieron con vinchas hechas con hojas de sauce. Mientras jugaban, preparamos la pintura y al llegar decoraron las carpas.
After putting the tents together, they went to the playground nearby to run and scream for a while. In the meantime, we prepared the paint for them to decorate the tents. When they came back, they had made these warrior "head-bands" using willow leaves.
Terminaron muy cansado y se echaron a dormir. ¡Gracias a los chicos por participar y a Caro, Mariana y la gente de la casita por invitarnos y ayudarnos!
After all the hard work they ended up really tired and took a nap. Thanks everyone for parcipating and to Caro, Mariana and the Casita folks for helping out!
